CANOPY IN THE GROVE
Revitalizing a two-story retail building in the heart of Coconut Grove involved transforming a previously unexpressive street-facing façade and addressing key challenges such as limited natural light, a poorly integrated restaurant patio that shared space with service access, and a vacant, underutilized corner. Our studio leveraged the building’s existing architectural assets—including its prominent corner exposure, street frontage with dramatic vault windows, and a grand entrance—to reimagine its presence within the urban fabric. The design approach paid homage to Coconut Grove’s eclectic character, referencing the neighborhood’s architectural richness—from the Art Nouveau flair of the Mayfair Hotel to the ornate New Orleans-style Cruz Building. We led the replacement and renovation of approximately 370 linear feet of façade elements, enhancing visibility, accessibility, and overall aesthetic to reinvigorate the property’s street-level experience.
